VC’s Terracycling, Recycling & Helping the Community in 2015

toothbrush_pasterecycling_resizeIf you have yet to notice the Terracycling bins at Valley Co Op, take a look the next time you come to the store. Through the Terracycling program we have diverted trash from the landfill and raised $179.22 in funds that we donate to local charities like Habitat for Humanity and San Mars Children’s Home.

The way the program works is you sign up to be in a brigade to collect an certain item or group of items, collect a predetermined amount of that item, and mail the collected items to Terracycle who then recycles or upcycles the items. Some of the items like juice pouches are made into bags or kites and some items are recycled into completely new things like benches and watering cans.

We are currently collecting energy bar wrappers, mainly any granola or energy bar or the like with a foil wrapper. We are also collecting toothbrushes, toothpaste tubes (rinsed out), and the plastic part of new toothbrush packages.

Please consider donating to these brigades, they are located on the shelves at the front of the store.  Learn more about Terracycling and the company.
